Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a leading Maryland cultural institution, has performed at Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall since 1982. Led by music director Marin Alsop, it’s known for acclaimed recordings, including Gershwin (Decca, 2010) and Bernstein (Naxos, 2017).
Jonathon Heyward, born in Charleston, South Carolina, is an American conductor and cellist. He serves as Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center. Heyward won the 2015 International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors and is recognized for making classical music accessible, championing new works, and leading diverse orchestras.
"The Pines of Rome" is a celebrated symphonic poem by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, born in Bologna. This orchestral masterpiece, part of his Roman Trilogy, vividly portrays scenes of Rome with colorful orchestration, blending classical and modern styles. Known for incorporating elements like Gregorian chant, it stands as one of his most performed works, earning international acclaim.
