This incredible songstress and accomplished songwriter captivates audiences with a soulful delivery uniquely her own. Listen to Brenda and you'll hear songs magically brought to life with a combination of down-home flavor and a slick uptown touch, reflecting the influence of her upbringing in Alabama and Chicago.

Early Life and Career

Eager, pronounced (ager), found her voice at the tender age of three when she began singing in church in her hometown of Lower Peachtree, Alabama. Since beginning her career, Brenda Lee is one of the few who has always made a living doing what she loves... and doing it well.

Collaborations with Great Artists

Brenda has worked with great artists such as Diana Ross, Roberta Flack, Smokey Robinson, Teena Marie, Donny Hathaway, Graham Nash, Ray Charles, Mavis Staples, Stevie Wonder, among many others. She takes us back to a time when soul-filled singing, whether silky-smooth or raw and passionate, was the order of the day.

Songwriting Achievements

As a songwriter, Brenda has written songs for:

  • Bobby Womack
  • Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers
  • Pop Staples
  • Cliff Richard
  • The Manhattans

  • The Late Great Ray Charles

Shirley Brown of Woman to Woman fame has recorded three of Brenda's tunes, and Gwen McCrae recorded Girlfriend's Boyfriend. The Late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and many others often request material from Brenda Lee Eager.

Collaboration with Prince

Upon reading song lyrics that Brenda sent to Mavis Staples, The Late Artist Prince requested the lyrics. As a result, Brenda Lee Eager co-wrote 2 songs with Prince, one of which went Double Platinum.

Musical and Theater Involvements

Brenda was a member of Operation Push and became one of four soloists known as The Piperettes of Freedom, along with a 21-piece orchestra led by Ben Branch. The group, formed by Rev Jesse Jackson, accompanied Rev Jackson and the movement as he traveled the country to get Black officials elected for the first time.

Brenda's first taste of musical theater was with Della Reese, who cast Brenda in a lead role in her musical The Message is in the Music. Brenda performed throughout Europe, co-starring with the late legendary Blues Singer Linda Hopkins and Maxine Weldon in the hit musical Wild Woman Blues.

Teaching and Consulting

Brenda Lee has taught songwriting for the Quincy Jones Workshop at the prestigious Inner City Cultural Center in Los Angeles and today is a consultant and vocal coach to many aspiring artists and songwriters.

Musical "From Behind the Starting Line"

One of her greatest undertakings is a full-length musical based on her life, called From Behind the Starting Line. Through her songs, tears, and laughter, the audience will be taken on an adventure through the many lives of Brenda Lee Eager. This phenomenally touching story reaches a part of all of us that we can relate to.
