Founded in Chicago by conductor Theodore Thomas, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra became an international classical powerhouse under Fritz Reiner and Sir Georg Solti, famed for RCA “Living Stereo” best-sellers and acclaimed London Records recordings.
Jean Sibelius was a Finnish composer of the late Romantic and early modern periods, widely regarded as his country's greatest composer. He is known for his significant contributions to symphonic and orchestral music, including his set of seven symphonies, the violin concerto, and symphonic tone poems such as Finlandia. His music drew heavily on Finnish myths and legends, particularly the epic poem Kalevala, and played an important role in the formation of the Finnish national identity.
Georgian-born German violinist Lisa Batiashvili is an award-winning Deutsche Grammophon artist and Artistic Director of Audi Sommerkonzerte, Ingolstadt. Her album City Lights followed Visions of Prokofiev, winner of an Opus Klassik Award.
A highly acclaimed Finnish conductor and cellist known for his rapid rise to international prominence, currently serving as the chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic and music director of the Orchestre de Paris.
