Chris Thile, born in Oceanside, CA, is a virtuoso mandolinist and singer, known for progressive bluegrass. Founding member of Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers, he won Grammys for collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma and Punch Brothers. He hosted NPR's Live from Here, and has worked with Brad Mehldau and Béla Fleck. His solo albums include Deceiver and Laysongs.
Punch Brothers, formed by Chris Thile after Nickel Creek, blend bluegrass, classical, and jazz. Known for virtuosic skill, they've topped bluegrass charts, won a Grammy, and collaborated with Jon Brion and T-Bone Burnett. Notable works include "All Ashore" and "Hell on Church Street." Their debut featured "The Blind Leaving the Blind" at Carnegie Hall, and they've contributed to films like The Hunger Games.
