Founded in 1931 in Washington, D.C., the National Symphony Orchestra is a celebrated American ensemble. It excels in classical and contemporary orchestral music, known for innovative programming and artistic excellence. The NSO commissions new works, has critically acclaimed recordings, and collaborates with diverse artists, including those in hip-hop. It was nominated for Gramophone's Orchestra of the Year.
Chris Thile, born in Oceanside, CA, is a virtuoso mandolinist and singer, known for progressive bluegrass. Founding member of Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers, he won Grammys for collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma and Punch Brothers. He hosted NPR's Live from Here, and has worked with Brad Mehldau and Béla Fleck. His solo albums include Deceiver and Laysongs.
