He's won seven GRAMMYs, five Latin GRAMMYs, and a Latin Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. His acclaimed album "Jazz Batá 2" earned a Latin GRAMMY and was on Billboard's 50 Best Latin Albums of the Decade. Valdés collaborates with his wife, Lorena Salcedo, to share Latin jazz globally.

Co-founded by Chucho Valdés and Armando de Sequeira Romeu, Irakere revolutionized Afro-Cuban jazz with eclectic styles, winning a Grammy for their 1979 album Irakere. Known for fusion of jazz, funk, and Cuban folk, they gained fame at international festivals. Their 1985 hit "Rucu Rucu A Santa Clara" became a global dance sensation. Collaborated with legends like Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D'Rivera. Their influence extends to Latin jazz and dance music, and they continue to be celebrated, with reissues of their classic albums in 2023.
