Maurice Ravel, a French composer of Swiss-Basque descent, is celebrated for his meticulous craftsmanship and brilliant orchestration. Though associated with Impressionism, his style incorporated modernism, neoclassicism, and jazz. His iconic works include Boléro, Daphnis et Chloé, and Pavane pour une infante défunte. He notably orchestrated Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and collaborated with figures like Diaghilev and Rubinstein. Ravel declined the Légion d'Honneur, solidifying his independent spirit.
Leonard Bernstein, born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, was an iconic American conductor, composer, and educator. He seamlessly blended classical, jazz, and Broadway styles. Celebrated for "West Side Story," "Candide," and his symphonies, he garnered 16 Grammys, 7 Emmys, and 2 Tonys. As New York Philharmonic's first American-born music director, he championed music education and collaborated notably with Jerome Robbins.
Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman, acclaimed for embodying 19th & 20th-century traditions, performs globally, recording for BIS label. Noted collaborations with top orchestras and conductors, and festivals like Ravinia and Tanglewood. Plays the 1690 'ex-Leopold Auer' Stradivarius.
