Birmingham, England reggae singer/toaster Pato Banton (born Patrick Murray) debuted on the English Beat’s 1982 album Special Beat Service. His solo debut Never Give In followed in 1987; Wize Up! (No Compromize) included a college radio hit cover of “Spirits in the Material World.”

Don Carlos (born Euvin Spencer) is a reggae artist from Waterhouse, Western Kingston, Jamaica. He began in 1973 as an original member of roots vocal group Black Uhuru, recording 1977’s Love Crisis (reissued as Black Sounds of Freedom), then went solo.
