Charlotte, North Carolina R&B singer Anthony Hamilton broke through with Comin' from Where I'm From (2003), a platinum album with five Grammy nods. He won a Grammy with Al Green on "You've Got the Love I Need" and later released Back to Love and What I'm Feelin'.

Fantasia

Born and raised in High Point, NC, Fantasia Barrino won American Idol season 3 and hit No. 1 with her debut single “I Believe” (2004). Her gospel-rooted “rock soul” led to albums Free Yourself and Fantasia and a 2010 Grammy for “Bittersweet.”
