Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard in Harlem, hit big with “It Takes Two” alongside DJ E-Z Rock. Known for pioneering hip-house, their track ruled dance floors and climbed Billboard's Top 40. Despite personal and legal challenges, Base released solo work, though none matched their initial success. The duo briefly reunited before E-Z Rock's death in 2014.
Born in NYC's Latin clubs, TKA signed with Tommy Boy in 1987 after a performance. Known for blending love ballads with hip-hop, hits include "Scars of Love." Released top albums and a greatest hits.
Brenda, known for the Grammy-nominated hit “I Still Believe,” has released gold and platinum Spanish albums, winning Latin Billboard Awards. Collaborated with stars like Mariah Carey, Victor Manuelle, and Tito Nieves.
Puerto Rican-American singer Lisette Melendez, born in East Harlem, sparked a '90s Latin freestyle revival with hits like "Together Forever". Known for blending club sounds with Latin pop, she has collaborated with producers like Carlos Berrios and won a Grammy in Japan.
Brooklyn-based Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, feat. Full Force members Hughes & Moseley, dominated mid-'80s dance-pop/R&B. Hits include "I Wonder if I Take You Home." Peaked in the '80s, disbanded in 1991.
Freestyle artist Cynthia, known for hits like “Change on Me,” debuted in 1987. Signed with MicMac, released albums and top tracks including a duet with Johnny O. Later explored club music under Tommy Boy.
NY-based dance-pop group The Cover Girls, formed by Andy Tripoli & Sal Abbatiello in 1986, featured hits like "Show Me" & "Wishing on a Star." Known for constant lineup changes, they peaked with several Top 40 tracks.
Exposé, a Miami-born vocal trio, hit fame in the '80s with Latin freestyle dance-pop and adult contemporary ballads like "Point of No Return" and "Seasons Change." Created by Lewis A.
