Joan as Police Woman, born Joan Wasser in Norwalk, CT, blends soul and experimental rock, influenced by Nina Simone and Sonic Youth. Her 2006 debut "Real Life" showcases her emotional honesty. Collaborating with Tony Allen and others, she gained acclaim for the 2021 album "The Solution Is Restless." A Boston University alum, she worked with artists like Rufus Wainwright and Sheryl Crow. Known for her genre-defying style, she explores jazz, pop, and R&B on her albums. A teacher at NYU, she's also toured with Iggy Pop.
