Joshua Redman, born in Berkeley, California, is an acclaimed tenor saxophonist known for blending post-bop jazz with advanced harmonies and playful exploration. The son of saxophonist Dewey Redman, he gained fame after winning the 1991 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Saxophone Competition. His 1993 debut album earned a Grammy nomination, and his album Wish topped the Billboard Jazz chart. Famous for collaborations with artists like Brad Mehldau, Yo-Yo Ma, and the Bad Plus, Redman continues his genre-bending work with projects like his Elastic Band and classic jazz and quartet albums.
Seattle-born pianist Aaron Parks is known for blending jazz, Eastern modalities, and indie rock, gaining fame with Terence Blanchard. His acclaimed albums include "Invisible Cinema" and ECM releases "Arborescence" and "Find the Way." Parks has worked with artists like Christian Scott and Kurt Rosenwinkel, and was part of the James Farm Quartet. He released "Little Big" series and digital albums with Matt Brewer and Eric Harland. Notable collaborations include Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear. He earned the title of Cole Porter Fellow from the American Pianists Association.
