New Orleans rapper Juvenile rose to fame with the Hot Boys and his 2004 hit "Slow Motion." Known for Southern hip-hop and bounce, he's collaborated with Lil Wayne and Mannie Fresh. Too $hort, born Todd Shaw in L.A., is a pioneering West Coast rapper known for explicit lyrics and sparse instrumentals. He released his breakthrough album, "Born to Mack," in 1988, earning gold certification. Collaborating with legends like 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z, Too $hort's hits include "The Ghetto" and "Blow the Whistle." He's achieved multiple platinum albums and continues influencing hip-hop with projects like his 2020 collaboration with E-40.
Project Pat, born in Memphis, is a standout hardcore rapper known for Dirty South anthems. Affiliated with Three 6 Mafia, he gained fame with "Chickenhead" in 2001. Collaborations include Juicy J, DJ Paul, and La' Chat. Despite legal troubles, he released albums like "Mista Don't Play" and "Crook by da Book," and worked with artists like Rick Ross and Young Dolph.
Scarface, born Brad Jordan in Houston, pioneered Southern thug rap. Known for gritty, hardcore lyrics, he found fame with Geto Boys and solo hits like "My Block." Collaborated with Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and 2Pac. Despite mainstream challenges, earned acclaim with "The Fix" and won 2001 Source's "Lyricist of the Year." Hesigned Ludacris to Def Jam South, boosting his legacy.
Southern rap pioneers 8Ball & MJG from Memphis gained fame with hits like "Space Age Pimpin'" and albums such as Comin' Out Hard. Renowned for their influential Southern style, they moved from Suave House Records to major labels like Bad Boy, collaborating with Swizz Beatz and DJ Quik. Known for their resilience, they left Bad Boy for Grand Hustle in 2010.
Goodie Mob, an Atlanta-based hip-hop group, includes Big Gipp, Cee-Lo, Khujo, and T-Mo. Known for their impact in Southern rap, their 1995 debut, "Soul Food," is a classic.
