Maya Ongaku is a Japanese trio from Enoshima, crafting earthy psychedelia and ambient folk. Their captivating sonic landscapes feature guitar, bass, and woodwinds, evolving to include synths. Tokyo-born Japanese noise artist Masami Akita, aka Merzbow, has released 500+ albums since 1980. Known for harsh noise using tape manipulation and industrial electronics; key releases include Venereology and the 50-CD Merzbox, plus collaborations with Boris.
Japanese psych-rock band DMBQ, formed in Sapporo, blends Tokyo acid rock with British and U.S. hard rock. Known for wild shows, they've toured globally, worked with indie and major labels, and collaborated with artists like Ty Segall, Boredoms, and Buffalo Daughter.
