Led by Music Director Alastair Willis, the ensemble serves the Michiana region by producing over 20 mainstage programs and dozens of chamber music concerts annually.
A leading American orchestra and one of Florida's longest-standing cultural institutions, founded in 1949 and resident at Jacoby Symphony Hall in Jacksonville, Florida.
Felix Mendelssohn, a German Romantic composer born in Hamburg, was a child prodigy known for his lyrical melodies and elegant orchestration. He blended Classical forms with Romantic expression, creating popular works like the "Wedding March," Violin Concerto, and Italian Symphony. Mendelssohn also revived Bach's music and founded the Leipzig Conservatory.
Jean Sibelius was a Finnish composer of the late Romantic and early modern periods, widely regarded as his country's greatest composer. He is known for his significant contributions to symphonic and orchestral music, including his set of seven symphonies, the violin concerto, and symphonic tone poems such as Finlandia. His music drew heavily on Finnish myths and legends, particularly the epic poem Kalevala, and played an important role in the formation of the Finnish national identity.
Gustav Mahler, born in Bohemia, was an Austro-Bohemian Romantic composer and conductor. He crafted expansive, deeply expressive symphonies and song cycles, bridging 19th-century Romanticism with 20th-century modernism. Known for innovative orchestration and emotional depth, his celebrated works include Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection" and Symphony No. 8 "Symphony of a Thousand".
