He started at Maxwell Street and Theresa's Lounge, played with Junior Wells, and toured with Willie Dixon. Later, he became Muddy Waters' bandleader. After Muddy's passing, he joined Magic Slim for 13 years. An Atlantic Records signee, Primer now tours with his Real Deal Blues Band. A Blues Hall of Famer with 3 Grammy nominations, he has received numerous awards, including 3 Lifetime Achievement Awards and 5 Blues Music Awards.
