Igor Stravinsky, the Russian-born titan of 20th-century music, revolutionized classical sound with his bold rhythms and innovative harmonies. His iconic ballets "The Firebird," "Petrushka," and the riot-inducing "The Rite of Spring," created for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, remain cornerstones of modernism. He also explored neoclassicism and serialism.
Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring," a groundbreaking 1913 ballet and orchestral work, originated in Paris. A landmark of musical Modernism, it is known for its brutal rhythms, dissonance, and Russian folk influences. Created with Sergei Diaghilev, Nicholas Roerich, and Vaslav Nijinsky, its premiere caused a historic sensation. It profoundly shaped 20th-century music.
The North Carolina Symphony, founded in Chapel Hill in 1932, is a pioneering classical orchestra known for its statewide service and extensive music education. As the first state-funded symphony, it performs diverse genres, from classical masterworks to folk and pops, and has presented over 50 premieres. Led by Grammy-winning Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto.
Carlos Miguel Prieto, a Mexican conductor from Mexico City, is celebrated for his charismatic and expressive interpretations in classical music.
