Christian McBride, a nine-time GRAMMY-winning bassist and composer, is Artistic Director of Newport Jazz, NJPAC, and more. He hosts NPR's Jazz Night in America.
Karina Rykman, born in NYC, is a dynamic bassist known for her infectious live shows and diverse style. She joined Marco Benevento's band before forming her own with Adam November and Chris Corsico. Rykman has played at major festivals like Bonnaroo and collaborated with artists like Trey Anastasio on her debut album, JOYRIDE, which includes hits like "Elevator" and "Plants."
Five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo from Benin blends West African music with R&B, funk, and jazz. Dubbed "Africa's premier diva" by Time, she advocates for children as a UNICEF Ambassador and founded the Batonga Foundation for girls' education in Africa.
Born at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Dumpstaphunk fuses funk, rock, and jazz, with Ivan & Ian Neville leading. They've supported legends like Rolling Stones & collaborated with Santana.
Trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, born in Kobe, Japan, is known for his inventive blend of post-bop, soul-jazz, and hip-hop. Say She She, a soulful female-led group, blends disco-delic sounds in their album "Silver." With members Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham, and Nya Gazelle Brown, the band tops charts like KCRW and BBC Radio 6 Music. Produced by Sergio Rios, their live-to-tape tracks brim with '80s NYC post-disco vibes. They’ve toured with Thee Sacred Souls and played festivals like Glastonbury.
Leo Nocentelli, born in New Orleans, is a founding member of the Meters, known for their pioneering funk. Celebrated for hits like "Cissy Strut," he has a unique guitar style blending blues, rock, jazz, and funk. Collaborated with legends like Stevie Wonder and Etta James, and his work appears on soundtracks like White Men Can't Jump. His lost 1971 solo album "Another Side," featuring Meters members, was released in 2021.
Ghost Funk Orchestra, created by Seth Applebaum, blends soul, psych rock, and salsa. Praised by NPR and Bandcamp, they've played with Os Mutantes and at the Montreal Jazz Fest.
