Founded in 1918 by Adella Prentiss Hughes, The Cleveland Orchestra is a world-renowned ensemble known for virtuosity, elegant sound, and artistic excellence under Franz Welser-Möst.
Antonín Dvořák, a celebrated Czech composer, was born in Nelahozeves, Bohemia. A master of the Romantic era, he infused his attractive melodies and brilliant orchestrations with Bohemian folk influences, later incorporating American elements. He is renowned for works like his Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," Cello Concerto, Slavonic Dances, and the opera Rusalka. Johannes Brahms supported his early career. Dvořák is celebrated for popularizing Slavic music and his versatile compositional style.
The Grand Rapids Symphony, founded in 1930 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a leading regional orchestra. It is known for its musical excellence, diverse programming spanning classical to contemporary, and extensive community engagement. The symphony earned a Grammy nomination for "Invention and Alchemy" in 2006. It also collaborates with Opera Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Ballet.
Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Most, born in Linz, is celebrated for his precise and disciplined classical style, encompassing opera and symphonic works. As Music Director of The Cleveland Orchestra, he fosters musical excellence and innovative programming. He holds numerous awards, including the Kennedy Center Gold Medal in the Arts and an Honorary Ring from the Vienna Philharmonic, with whom he frequently collaborates. His acclaimed recordings include works by Richard Strauss and Bruckner.
