Formed in New York City’s Latin club scene, TKA landed a break at a sweet 16 party and were signed to Tommy Boy in 1987. Known for love ballad harmonies over hip-hop beats, they released Scars of Love (1987) and Louder Than Love (1991).
Dance-pop singer George Lamond, born George Garcia in Washington, D.C., began as a backup singer for cousin Joey Kid and in Loose Touch. His club hit Bad of the Heart led to a Columbia deal; the LP spawned freestyle hits Without You and Look Into My Eyes.
Dance/freestyle artist Cynthia began in 1987, signing to MicMac Records. She released Cynthia and Cynthia II, with singles like Change on Me, Endless Night and Love Me Tonight, plus a Johnny O duet. Later joined Tommy Boy; club single How I Love Him featured K7.
Judy Torres is an ’80s dance-pop and freestyle singer who began her career at 17. Known for the freestyle classic No Reason to Cry from the album Love Story, she also released My Soul and Love You for All Seasons and hosts a show on New York’s WKTU.
The Cover Girls are a New York dance-pop group formed in 1986 by Andy “Panda” Tripoli and Sal Abbatiello. Their 1987 debut Show Me placed five songs on Billboard charts; “Because of You” and “Promise Me” hit Hot 100 Top 40.
Born Wilma Cosme in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in East Harlem, Safire is a Latin freestyle singer known for late-’80s club hits like “Don’t Break My Heart” and “Thinking of You” (peaked at No. 12). She released Sa-Fire (1988) and I Wasn’t Born Yesterday (1990).
Born Jeffrey Martinez in Jersey City, New Jersey, Soave is a celebrated Freestyle music pioneer. Known for his smooth vocals and energetic rhythms, he dominated dance charts with hits like "Crying Over You" and "If You Want Me." His notable works include the album "Lost Files" and collaborations such as "Hallelujah" with Judy Torres and George Lamond. His music continues to resonate with fans.
