Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard in Harlem, is best known for the hip-hop classic "It Takes Two" with DJ E-Z Rock. The duo's album went platinum and Spin named it Single of the Year. After releasing a solo album, Base reunited with E-Z Rock for Break of Dawn in 1994. E-Z Rock passed away in 2014 and was honored at the Hip Hop Hall of Fame.
TKA, born in NYC’s Latin club scene, were signed by Tommy Boy in 1987. They blend love ballads with hip-hop beats. Known for "Scars of Love" and collaborations in the freestyle genre.
Brenda K. Starr, born in New York City, is known for her pop and salsa hits. Her Grammy-nominated song "I Still Believe" was later a hit for Mariah Carey. Brenda's Spanish albums, like "Te Sigo Esperando," achieved Platinum status, and she won two Latin Billboard Awards. Her debut album topped Billboard's Heatseekers, and she won a Grammy in Japan.
Dance/freestyle artist Cynthia, born in New York, launched her career in 1987 with hits like "Change on Me" and "Dream Boy/Dream Girl." Known for collaborations with Johnny O and K7, she was signed to MicMac and later Tommy Boy Records. Her music shifted towards club sounds with remixes by Todd Terry. Cynthia's work includes the album *Cynthia's Greatest Hits*.
Judy Torres, born in the 1980s dance-pop era, is known for her powerful voice and classics like "No Reason to Cry." A radio host on WKTU, she's also explored musical theater, maintaining a strong presence in freestyle music.
NY-based dance-pop group The Cover Girls, formed by Andy Tripoli & Sal Abbatiello in 1986, featured hits like "Show Me" & "Wishing on a Star." Known for constant lineup changes, they peaked with several Top 40 tracks.
