Heiligen-Geist-Kirche Wismar Concerts

MIX OF RELIGION AND SUSPENSE! The Church of the Holy Spirit is part of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit, founded in the mid-13th century. The churchyard served as a backdrop in 1922 for a scene from the classic German horror movie: NOSFERATU. It is undoubtedly a beautiful and mysterious place at the same time. Worth a stop if you are in Wismar. The ceiling alone is worth the trip.

A very special church. The entablature is completely flat and extremely artistically painted. It looks something like an old ship's ceiling. The church is currently being renovated, so you can only see parts of the church. In the side room of the church there are individual rooms that were probably used as a hospice. A very special church that is worth seeing.

A very beautiful, small church that is worth visiting if you are in Wismar. Construction work on the outer shell is currently taking place. An entry fee of €1.00 is required for the church. There is a flat wooden ceiling visible in the church. Different biblical scenes are shown in each ceiling element. On one wall you can see the exposed remains of the depiction of the parable of the three living and the three dead. There is also a unique fresco on which you can read the phrase "Deo Gracias" (Thank God) over 500 times.

The Holy Spirit Church looks rather inconspicuous from the outside. Due to extensive renovation work, the church is partially covered with scaffolding. Inside, however, you are rewarded with a fascinating colorful wooden ceiling, a window with stained glass of Christian motifs and a magnificent main altar with side wings and central shrine.
