The Stage at Suffolk Downs Reviews

The field that this single stage is on is massive. I'm not sure if the speakers used here are owned by Suffolk Downs or were put there by the festival I went to, but they were LOUD. I have been to five concerts before this, and this venue had the loudest speakers I've ever heard. I had noise-blocking headphones and earplugs in at the same time and I could still hear the music just fine, and I was way at the back of the crowd, stage right. I know it's ironic to go to a concert and complain about the volume, but if you're like me and you're not much of a "loud music" person so much as you are a "see the artist, experience the music with them and the crowd live" person, you should know. Solid venue, but please bring hearing protection. The line to get in moved quickly. The wait to get drinks, however, was at least twenty minutes. I think they could use more people helping out with serving drinks. Like some other commenters mentioned, I hope that they add grading in. The field is level, so unless you're far out or up close (or tall) your view will be somewhat obscured. It'd be nice to put some dirt in to have the place be more amphitheater-shaped, maybe then they could have better acoustics and be able to turn the speakers down a bit? Being so close to the airport you will see and hear planes passing by, but it's not distracting. I found it really cool and unique. The Stage is a short walk from Suffolk Downs Station, I recommend using that to get in. It was an easy walk to get there and back from the station, though some signage from the station to the field notifying you that you're going the right way would help. Note that cell reception is poor in and around The Stage, so if you're coming here for the first time you should have your local maps saved and ready to pull up to navigate manually if need be. Came here for Breakaway Boston on September 15th, 2023, to see Porter Robinson. The concert was awesome!

Awesome setup for an outdoor show. Vendors were great and there were NO lines, not even for the bathrooms! Which were clean! We love to see it, no notes.

Show itself was great, bathrooms were great. Food was pricey but alright. Getting out was so dangerous. I am so disappointed. Not well lit at all, thousands of people bottlenecking into one fence entrance. People were literally climbing the six foot fence to leave. Took 45 minutes to do the quarter-mile walk back to the car. People were being trampled, stepped on, crushed... There was only one exit that was about a 5-foot wide gate for thousands of people to walk through. Horrible. Will not ever be attending a show here ever again. Super dangerous, super unorganized. Parking lot was hell with no one directing. Please do not attend a show here. Furthermore, it was super hard to see. There was no grading and the stage wasn't super high. My view was completely obstructed the entire time. No one could see anything on stage unless you were in the way back or the front few rows. The lack of grading made it impossible to see anything except the people in front of you. I paid a lot of money to see these artists and I literally could just BARELY see the screen behind them, let alone the actual artists themselves on stage. Not enjoyable.

What a great time at a new venue! I had no idea what to expect since I went to Re:Set, the first event for The Stage and I trust that this will be a SPOT for future Boston summers. Organizers allowed the perfect amount of people on the grounds (I never had to wait for the bathroom or felt squished) and although the planes are noisy at times, it made for a unique experience. Also, something that I really appreciated is that organizers were open to recommendations. I heard that there was not a water refill station the first night, but they added them to the grounds for future nights. Thank you to everyone who made such a beautiful Boygenius night possible!

Obviously with this being a newer venue, I assume they will reconvene after this first weekend to discuss what worked and didn't work. Some positives: 1. Bathrooms were plentiful with actual soap and water stations. Only downside here was the flooded grass-walk to get to it but that can't be helped due to severe rain the night before. 2. I thought the sound was pretty good from where we were (100 feet back on stage left) 3. Food was surpsingly excellent?! I'm not sure if these food vendors were exclusive to the Re:SET concert series but the hot food was super good. They had a variety of pizzas, cheesesteaks, fries, chicken tenders, sausage sandwiches, etc. 10/10 Some negatives: leaving the venue was abysmal. The foot paths were not well lit nor labeled. Paths would funnel into a small line without warning which created a backup and no one knew where the lots were. Venue should consider better lighting and signage. Also, venue should consider gentle grading of land plot; unless you are super tall or very far back, the stage can be hard to see. This venue is close to Logan Airport, and takeoffs were frequent. Sometimes the sound was invasive, but we actually found it kind of unique and soothing. I think with these improvements a concert here would be more enjoyable , but I did have a very nice time here last night!
