Electronic Dance Music (shortened as EDM) is also called dance music, club music, or just dance. It is a genre of music that is believed to have evolved from disco music in the 1970s. It incorporates a lot of electronic genres such as techno, electro, disco, dubstep, house, trance, and dance-pop and was in the initial days made for nightclubs, raves, and festivals. EDM is specifically made for playback by DJs.
In its early days, EDM was opposed by the mainstream media and the record industry, and would often take place in underground clubs and abandoned warehouses. Eventually, EDM would break into the mainstream in the new millennium with the help of prominent artists such as Madonna (who released the techno-pop album Ray of Light in 1998), Daft Punk, Tiësto, and David Guetta. Skrillex, a Grammy-award-winning EDM artist, introduced dubstep into the US during the early 2000s.
The Electric Daisy Carnival, fondly called EDC, is one of the must-see EDM events for fans of the genre. What started out as a warehouse party in Las Vegas in 1997 soon turned out to be the biggest festival of EDM. The level of creativity seen in this multi-day event is unparalleled.
On the other hand, the ULTRA Music festival is becoming a phenomenon not just in the US but also all over the world. The festival in the US takes place in Miami during Miami Music Week (which is a popular electronic festival in itself) and you can expect DJ concerts from the best in the business.
EDM concerts are notorious for dancing on your feet in a tightly packed crowd. Even though EDM shows have emerged from the underground since becoming mainstream, many still favor warehouses and small indoor venues, which offer an intimate setting.
Since EDM concerts tend to be visually pleasing with their stage design, lighting, and pyrotechnics, standing a bit away from the stage allows you to capture everything.
