Formed in Sacramento in 1991 by John McCrea, Cake is best known for their 1996 hit The Distance and the multi-platinum album Fashion Nugget. Their genre-mixing geek rock sound features deadpan speak-singing and satirical lyrics.

Y La Bamba

Y La Bamba’s seventh album, Lucha, led by vocalist and producer Luz Elena Mendoza Ramos, explores love, queerness, Mexican American and Chicanx identity, and healing. Begun during COVID-19 lockdowns, it started with a cover of “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.”
