Founded in 1910, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Rafael Payare, is a Tier 1 Orchestra celebrated for its superior quality performances and innovative educational programs across Southern California.
Pianist Garrick Ohlsson, born in Bronxville, NY, is known for his flawless technique and Chopin interpretations. He was the first American to win the Chopin Competition (1970), holds a Grammy for Beethoven Sonatas, and collaborates with top quartets.
Robert Spano, born in Conneaut, Ohio, is a renowned conductor known for leading major American orchestras, winning multiple Grammys with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He champions contemporary works, has directed acclaimed operatic performances, and frequently appears on TV. His collaborations include composers Golijov, Higdon, and Muhly. Spano served as music director of the Atlanta Symphony (2001–2021) and was named music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in 2022. He's also an acclaimed composer, praised for works like Four Elements and Hölderlin-Lieder.
