Lo-fi pop pioneer Tobin Sprout, born in 1955, is known for his work with Guided by Voices (GBV) and his solo albums. His melodic songwriting grounded GBV's sound, resulting in beloved albums like Bee Thousand. After leaving GBV in 1997, he focused on solo projects, releasing albums like Carnival Boy and Moonflower Plastic. Sprout rejoined GBV for a "classic lineup" tour from 2010-2014 and released albums like The Universe & Me in 2017 and Empty Horses in 2020.
