Formed in Sacramento, California in 1991, Cake mixed funk, hip-hop, country, jazz, and rock with deadpan, satirical vocals from John McCrea. Best known for the hit "The Distance" from 1996’s Fashion Nugget; later hits included "Never There" and "Short Skirt/Long Jacket."

Battery

Battery, a key part of Washington, D.C.’s mid-’90s youth crew hardcore scene, combined Brian McTernan’s vision and Ken Olden’s guitar to shape raw, emotional hardcore.
