LineUp

Israeli-born, New York-based pianist Inon Barnatan (born in Tel Aviv) is noted for contemporary music and Schubert/Beethoven. A chamber standout, he often collaborates with cellist Alisa Weilerstein; his albums include Darknesse Visible and Brahms: Cello Sonatas.
Zwickau-born Robert Schumann, a German Romantic composer, shaped the era with expressive piano works, Lieder, and symphonies. His innovative style blended emotion and literature. He was also an influential music critic.
Sir Edward Elgar, born in Lower Broadheath, England, was a leading English Romantic composer. Known for his bold tunes and grand orchestral works, he sparked a renaissance in English music. His iconic pieces include the "Enigma Variations," "Pomp and Circumstance Marches," and the Cello Concerto.
Founded in 1914, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has thrived despite challenges, with highlights like the first radio symphonic concert in 1922. Under directors like Ossip Gabrilowitsch, Paul Paray, and Leonard Slatkin, the DSO gained international acclaim and won several awards. It overcame financial woes and now thrives at the restored Orchestra Hall. Notable collaborations include Chandos, Mercury, and Naxos labels. Jader Bignamini became music director in 2020, continuing DSO’s legacy of excellence.
