Formed by four California teens in 1986 after a Monty Python joke band name, Toad the Wet Sprocket features founders Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols and Dean Dinning. Known for introspective lyrics, melodic guitars and vocal harmonies; released Rings: The Acoustic Sessions.
Australian new wave band formed in Melbourne in 1978 by Colin Hay. Their debut Business as Usual became an international hit, with “Who Can It Be Now?” and “Down Under” reaching No. 1. Won the 1982 Grammy for Best New Artist.
Formed in Osaka in 1981, Japanese trio Shonen Knife play bubblegum punk-pop. Boosted by touring with Nirvana, they signed Capitol for 1992’s Let’s Knife; later highlights include Candy Rock (2003) and Our Best Place (2023).
